Trading journal for prop firms
A challenge is rarely lost on bad analysis. It is lost on a rule tracked badly: a drawdown believed fixed when it trails, a day that goes past the threshold before you saw it coming. These rules are arithmetic — exactly what a journal should be computing for you.
The four rules that disqualify
- The daily drawdown. It resets every day. Knowing mid-session how much room is left before you hit it is the calculation nobody does correctly in their head.
- The trailing drawdown. It rises with every new high: today’s threshold is not yesterday’s. It is the rule that catches out the most traders, and it is the norm at futures firms.
- The consistency rule. It caps how much of your total gain your best day can represent. You can hit the target and still fail.
- Minimum trading days. Hitting the target in two sessions when the firm asks for four does not pass the challenge.
The presets that ship with it
- FTMO: static drawdown, 5% daily and 10% overall against the starting balance, 10% target, 4 minimum days. The most readable of the three.
- Topstep: trailing drawdown, 2% daily and 4% overall, 6% target, consistency capped at 50%.
- Apex: no daily limit, but a 3% trailing overall drawdown and a 30% consistency rule. The risk is not the day, it is the trajectory.
- Any other firm: tracking works with your own thresholds. The three presets above simply ship built in.

Which prop firms are supported?
Rule presets ship for FTMO, Topstep and Apex Trader Funding. Any other firm can be tracked by entering your own thresholds: target, daily drawdown, overall drawdown, whether it trails, and consistency.
Is the trailing drawdown handled?
Yes. The drawdown can be configured as static or trailing. When trailing, the threshold is recomputed from your high-water mark rather than from the starting balance.
Is Altiora partnered with these prop firms?
No. Altiora is not affiliated with any prop firm and is not the official partner of any. The presets describe public rules and stay editable; only the firm’s own site is authoritative.
Can I practise before paying for a challenge?
Yes. The backtesting module replays the market bar by bar on historical data under the same rule constraints, so a strategy can be tested before paying challenge fees.
